Andre Cleroux began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2024, searching for something that would challenge him both physically and mentally. He wanted more than just a workout — he wanted skills, discipline, and growth that would carry over into everyday life. Jiu-Jitsu quickly became that outlet.

Coming in with no prior martial arts background, Andre embraced the beginner mindset fully. He understands what it feels like to start from day one — and that perspective shapes the way he supports others on their journey.

On the mats, Andre enjoys hunting for submissions from Kesa-Gatame, bringing pressure and control from top positions. He’s also comfortable working from half guard, appreciating the balance between defense, patience, and opportunity that the position offers.

As a kids program coach, Andre finds the greatest reward in watching young athletes discover their own potential. Seeing a child push through a barrier, accomplish something they once thought was impossible, and walk off the mats smiling — that’s what fuels him. His coaching style can be summed up in three words: Hype Man, Encouraging, Perseverance. He brings energy, belief, and steady support to every class.

To anyone nervous about starting, Andre offers reassurance rooted in experience:

Outside the gym, Andre is someone who immerses himself fully in everything he does. He is deeply committed to his community, volunteering his time with various organizations and giving back wherever he can. That same spirit of service carries onto the mats at Union JJ.
