Coach
Eric Fryer began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2010 — inspired by his brother. What started as curiosity quickly became a lifelong passion. With an early background in Karate, Eric discovered that grappling was where he truly felt at home. Since then, Jiu-Jitsu has become a cornerstone of his life, shaping him physically, mentally, and spiritually.
On the mats, Eric is known for his love of the kimura and his dynamic open guard game — but what truly sets him apart is his approach to coaching. He describes his style in three words: games, stories, enthusiastic. Whether he’s teaching fundamentals or refining advanced details, Eric brings energy and creativity to every class, making learning both effective and engaging.
What Eric loves most about coaching is sharing something that has had such a profoundly positive impact on his own life. He genuinely believes Jiu-Jitsu has the power to radically change someone’s life for the better. For anyone nervous about starting, his message is simple:
“Try it — there’s no downside.”
Outside the gym, Eric is also deeply passionate about running. He once ran across Iceland — a challenge that reflects the same resilience, discipline, and adventurous spirit he brings to his training and coaching.
For Eric, Union JJ is more than a gym. Union makes him a better person, and what makes it truly special, in his words, is simple:
"The people! We’re brought together through Jiu-Jitsu — but what keeps us together is the community."
At Union JJ, Eric isn’t just building athletes — he’s helping build stronger, more confident people. And he’s proud to do it alongside a team that feels like family.
